Vladimir Stopichev, Merited Artist of Russia, studied viola at the Specialized Music School attached to the St. Petersburg Conservatoire, later graduated from the Conservatoire and completed his professional tuition finishing the post-graduate course under Professor Yu.Kramarov. When a student of the Conservatoire V.Stopichev was awarded the first prize at the Viola Players Contest in Munich, Germany. For a considerable time he was a member of the St. Petersburg Philharmonic Orchestra performing with outstanding conductors E.Mravinsky and Yu.Temirkanov. In 1991 V.
Stopichev joined Moscow Soloists chamber orchestra, where he is the principal viola.
As a soloist V.Stopichev played in orchestras under A.Jansons, Yu.Simonov, P.Kogan, V.Chernushenko, also he collaborated with B.Gutnikov, B.Davidovich, E.Virsaladze, L.Isakadze, M.Gantvarg. As a member of the Taneev quartet V.Stopichev has toured in the USA, Italy, Germany, Yugoslavia. He has taught master classes in Russia, South Korea, Germany, UK, Finald and the USA.
Since 1975 V. Stopichev has been Professor of viola and string quartet at the St. Petersburg Conservatory.
